Egyptian youth accept to employ metaverse technology in journalistic institutions (A future study within the framework of the technology acceptance model)

Abstract

Based on the technology acceptance model, the study tested the acceptance of young people in Cairo Governorate for employing virtual reality and metaverse technology in journalism and media and their attitudes towards it in terms of potential positive and negative effects, in addition to testing the effect of perceived benefit, perceived ease of use, and a group of external factors on the behavioral intentions of young people towards that technology.

By applying the technology acceptance model to a sample of young people in Cairo Governorate, numbering 200 respondents, the results showed that there was a statistically significant correlation between perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use in influencing young people’s behavioral intentions towards employing virtual reality technology and the virtual reality.

The results also showed that the respondents saw positive aspects of employing this technology in promoting and strengthening journalistic content by 85%, and the technology’s ability to present information and news in an attractive visual manner by 73.5%. However, at the same time, they expressed their concern about the occurrence of social and privacy violations due to this technology, with the agreement of 70% of respondents. Sample members, which indicates different interpretation views about the future of this technology and the consequences of employing it in the journalistic and media field.
