"The communicative effects of Jordanian youth engagement with digital audio technologies: Podcasts as a case study"

Abstract

The problem of the study is to identify the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral effects of Jordanian youth's interaction with podcasting technology, given its diverse auditory content covering various topics and ideas, and the resulting diversity of interactions with digital audio content. This in turn affects the communicative habits of Jordanian youth in interacting with these digital audio technologies. The study relied on both the media environment theory and the symbolic interactionism theory. A convenience sample of 400 Jordanian youths who interact with audio podcast applications was drawn for the study.The study found that 50% of Jordanian youth are consistently interested in listening to the podcasting application, whereas 32% of the study sample occasionally listen to the audio content of the application, and 18% listen to it rarely. Furthermore, 32.3% of the study sample enjoy listening to it daily, indicating a high level of engagement throughout the week, relying on it to pass the time throughout the day. The study also confirmed that listens to audio content through podcasts while browsing general and specialized websites and social media platforms with a weight of 85.7 degrees, placing it at the forefront. The study demonstrated a significant relationship between the motivations for listening to audio content on the podcasting application and the sample's confidence in the audio content provided through podcasts, There was a significant relationship between forms of interaction with the topics listened to through the podcasting application and the factors influencing the follow-up of audio content provided through podcasting application channels.
