Abstract

As extended reality (XR) applications like VR and AR surge in popularity among university youth, concerns and hopes swirl around their impact on mood. This study explored how these immersive technologies might affect students' sense of well-being.
While students were familiar with VR and AR, "mixed reality" was a new concept. Yet, discussions revealed both potential benefits and risks. On the positive side, students envisioned XR saving time and effort, enhancing education, and facilitating remote work. However, fears included using XR as escapism, wasting time, and sacrificing human interaction for technology dependence.
Looking ahead, opinions diverged on the future of XR under artificial intelligence. Some saw it as a tool for advancement, while others cautioned about potential risks. Ultimately, the study underscores the need for responsible XR use, acknowledging its potential for both good and harm.
